Centrum, as it sleeps
Centrum covers everything from large hotels by Centraal Station to small rooms above bars in the Zeedijk and canal-house apartments on the Keizersgracht. Each has its own quirks. Big hotels have key-card lifts and staffed lobbies at every hour, so meet her downstairs. Canal houses have steep stairs and shared front doors that lock at night, so tell the office and come down when she messages. Rooms above bars can be loud until two on weekends; close the windows and ask for a back room if you can. Because this service involves no covering at all, warmth matters more here than for any other booking, and old buildings in the centre can be draughty. Turn the heating up early, shut the window over the canal and keep the bathroom door open so steam from your shower warms the room.
