Where it comes from
The word is ancient and the massage is modern. In Hindu and tantric iconography the lingam is the emblem of Shiva, honoured in temples as a symbol of creative force, and the tantric texts regard the body, sexual energy included, as a vehicle for awareness rather than something to hide. The named practice of lingam massage belongs to the twentieth century: Western teachers of neo-tantra, first in California and later across Germany and the Low Countries, turned those principles into a sequence that could be taught in workshops and given by one person to another. It found an easy audience in Amsterdam, a city where intimate touch had never needed a costume, and it drifted onto the erotic menus here without much fuss. What the long history leaves behind is one instruction: slow down, pay attention, and do not chase the ending.
