Dam Square, as it sleeps
Hotels around the square are mostly large, with staffed lobbies, key-card lifts and night porters who see visitors come and go constantly. Meet her in the lobby or give her the room number when she messages. Rooms facing the square hear street performers on summer evenings and occasional events; rooms on the Damrak side hear trams until about one. Smaller hotels on the Nieuwendijk and the Spuistraat have narrow corridors and compact rooms, so clear the floor and the bed before she comes. Air conditioning in the bigger hotels runs cold, which matters when nothing covers the body, so raise the temperature when you book. The square itself is well lit and busy with pedestrians until late, and her arrival is unremarkable even after midnight.
