Where it comes from
Contact massage is older than any spa brochure. Bathhouse attendants across Asia worked bodies with their own bodies long before anyone attached the word erotic to it, and the Thai parlours of the late twentieth century gave the practice its English name, printed on menus in hotel districts from Bangkok to Hong Kong. Europe learned it later, largely through the sauna clubs of the German-speaking countries, where it arrived stripped of ceremony and reduced to a line on a price board. Amsterdam did something more interesting with it. The women who work by outcall here took the oil version, which travels better than foam or gel, and made it the warm middle of the erotic menu, a format that needs nothing but a bed and a bottle. What they kept from the Asian original is the patience; what they dropped is the hurry of a parlour clock ticking in the corridor.
